Lo-Fi Lounge is a free online beat maker for building mellow drums, jazzy chords and bass grooves in your browser. Start with Rainy day, Night owl, Golden hour or Coffee break, then change the instruments and rhythm to create your own loop. No account or software installation is required.
Choose from 12 chord progressions, four drum kits, five keyboard sounds, five bass grooves and six melody styles. Add vinyl crackle and rain, adjust tempo and swing, or use New track to generate a different arrangement. Download the finished beat, export its individual tracks, or record a portrait video of your live mix.
How to make a lo-fi beat online
Pick a mood and press Play. Each mood loads a different combination of drums, keyboard sound, bass groove and chord rhythm. The beat starts after you press Play.
Build your drum pattern. Each row in the 16-step grid is a drum and each column is a sixteenth note. Try a kick on step 1, snares on steps 5 and 13, and hi-hats on alternate steps. Click a drum name to mute that track.
Find the right feel. Start around 70–85 BPM for a relaxed groove, then adjust by ear. Swing delays alternating steps to loosen the rhythm. The tempo control spans 55–105 BPM.
Choose chords, bass and melody. Open Shape your sound to combine a chord progression with upright piano, Rhodes, felt piano, a hazy pad or music-box tones. Try walking bass for more motion or long sub notes for a spacious beat.
Let the arrangement develop. Steady mode repeats four bars. Evolving mode adds fills and variations across eight bars; Journey mode also includes a breakdown. Remix drums, harmony or melody separately, and use Undo to recover a change.
Save your creation. Download a WAV loop, download the stems ZIP, or use Share beat to create a link that another person can open and remix.
Shape your lo-fi sound
For a quiet study-music loop, try felt piano, sparse melody and a low rain level. For a stronger boom-bap rhythm, choose Crunchy boom bap drums with syncopated chord chops. Brushed jazz drums and walking bass make a different starting point from Deep 808 drums and a hazy pad.
The five mixer faders balance drums, keys, bass, vinyl and rain. Keys controls both the chords and melody. The master fader changes the complete mix. Transpose moves the pitched instruments together, and the separate remix buttons let you explore new parts while keeping the rest of your beat.
Download lo-fi beats, stems and mixing videos
Download WAV renders the complete four- or eight-bar loop as a stereo 44.1 kHz, 16-bit audio file. The export uses your chosen sounds, pattern and mixer settings.
Download stems creates a ZIP containing only ten WAV files: kick, snare, hi-hat, rim, shaker, keys, melody, bass, vinyl and rain. Import them at the same start time in your music editor. They have matching lengths and preserve your faders and mutes; disabled parts are silent. Stems bypass the mix-bus compressor, so their combined sound can differ from the finished WAV mix.
Make a TikTok video records a 15-, 30- or 60-second portrait performance with beat audio, meters and your live mixing changes. Finish early if you like, then preview and download the result. The controls adapt to phones, tablets and computers. Playback requires a browser with Web Audio support. Video recording and its available file formats depend on your browser; the recorder shows its supported format before you begin.
How do I make the beat less repetitive?
Choose Evolving or Journey mode for eight-bar development, change the chord rhythm or bass groove, or remix a single layer. New track changes the drums, sounds, harmony, melody, pitch and tempo together.
Does the beat maker save my work?
Your latest settings are saved on this device when browser storage is available. Clearing browser data can remove that save. Use Share beat to copy a link containing your arrangement, or download your audio to keep a separate copy.
What is the difference between Lo-Fi Lounge and Lo-Fi Cube?
Lo-Fi Lounge lets you program drums and choose synthesized instruments, chord rhythms and bass grooves. Lo-Fi Cube is a 3D loop mixer. Use the Lounge to shape individual musical parts, or the Cube to explore layering loops.
