More feel.
Less clicking.

This version layers real drum hits with live synthesis, then runs everything through saturation, room ambience and master compression. Pointer position and touch pressure change velocity, so repeated hits no longer sound stamped out.

Capture Loop starts with a silent 16-step bar and snaps your finger drumming into it. Starter grooves are optional backing beats you switch on separately, while Mutate and Fill create quick variations without turning the machine into a complicated sequencer.

Drum pad online — how to make a beat

This is a free drum pad you can play online with your mouse, your fingers on a touchscreen, or your computer keyboard — 16 velocity-sensitive pads backed by a live drum machine. Here's the fastest way from empty page to finished beat:

  1. Press ● Capture your loop — a silent 16-step bar starts running, and only the pads you play are added to it.
  2. Play a simple kick-snare pattern. With Snap on, every hit lands neatly on the closest step; turn Snap off to keep your exact human timing.
  3. Layer pass by pass — kick first, then snare, then hats — and watch the step lights fill in as your loop grows.
  4. Want a backing beat instead? Pick a starter groove like Trap Bounce and press Start groove, then jam or capture over it. Mutate and Fill add instant variation.
  5. Shape the sound with Punch, Space, the hold-down Drop filter, Roll (repeats your last pad in time), and Chop (slices the whole mix), plus the Tone and Room controls.
  6. When it knocks, press ● Record, let it run, then ↓ Save your beat as an audio file.

Every control has a ? button next to it with a plain-language guide, so you're never stuck wondering what something does.

Play the drum pad with your computer keyboard

The fastest way to play is the keyboard — and on this drum pad, every letter, number, and punctuation key plays a sound. The pad labels show the easiest home positions: 1-2-3-4 on top, then Q-W-E-R, A-S-D-F, and Z-X-C-V, mapped like an MPC so both hands can drum at once. Keys in the same keyboard row stay in the same drum family, so exploring beyond the home keys always makes musical sense. Hold Shift for accented hits, press several keys together for flams, and use Space to start or stop. On a phone or tablet the pads are multi-touch, and tapping higher on a pad plays it harder.

Use it as an online launchpad

Looking for an online launchpad-style pad grid? This works the same way: a bank of trigger pads laid out in a grid, each with its own sound, color family, and light. It's a fun way to practice finger drumming and pad independence before — or instead of — buying hardware.

What's on the pads

The 16 pads cover a full electronic kit: a punchy kick and a long 808 sub, snare, clap and rimshot, closed and open hi-hats (the closed hat chokes the open one, just like real hardware), three toms, cowbell, shaker, clave, crash, ride, and a laser FX hit. Four kits — Neon 808, Dirty Trap, Warehouse, and Dusty Tape — reshape every pad at once, and the whole mix runs through saturation, a room reverb, and master compression so your beats come out glued and punchy.

Frequently asked questions

Is this drum pad free?

Yes — completely free in your browser, with no download, account, or app required.

How does loop capture work?

Press Capture Your Loop and a silent 16-step bar starts running — only the pads you play are added to it. With Snap on, hits land on the closest step; with Snap off, your exact timing is kept. Starter grooves stay off unless you switch one on separately.

Can I play it with my computer keyboard?

Yes — every letter, number, and punctuation key plays a sound. The home keys are 1-2-3-4, Q-W-E-R, A-S-D-F, and Z-X-C-V, Shift accents your hits, and Space starts or stops the loop.

Can I download my beat?

Yes. Press Record while your loop and the groove play, then stop and Save the audio file to your device.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The pads are touch-friendly and velocity-sensitive — tap higher on a pad for a harder hit, and drum with several fingers at once.

Why do the pads only make sound after I tap once?

Browsers only allow audio to start after you interact with the page — your first tap wakes the audio engine.
