The ButtonBass 8-Bit Beat Maker is a free online chiptune drum machine with 16 synthesized 8-bit drum pads, a 16-step sequencer, chip lead, bass, SFX, chord, and arpeggiator sequencers. Every sound is generated in real time using square waves, triangle waves, and noise channels — just like a real retro sound chip. No audio files, no plugins, no sign-up required.

Choose from six chiptune kits (Chip Classic, Pocket, SID Crunch, Retro Console, Coin-Op, Pixel Pop), tap pads or use your keyboard to trigger 8-bit drum sounds, then build patterns on the step sequencer. Add chip leads, square-wave bass, game sound effects, retro chords, and rapid-fire arpeggios to create full chiptune arrangements. Includes saw-wave presets with sawtooth leads, detuned supersaws, resonant filter sweeps, and thick unison basses. Use the Generate button to create complete 8-bit songs in styles like Platformer, Boss Battle, Saw Wave, Retro Rave, Synth Pop, and more. When your track is ready, hit Export WAV to render the whole song to an audio file you can keep, share, or sample.

How to Make 8-Bit Beats

Tap any of the 16 pads to trigger an 8-bit drum sound. Use your keyboard for faster playing — Q/W/E/R trigger kicks, A/S/D/F trigger snares, Z/X/C/V trigger hi-hats, and 1/2/3/4 trigger percussion. Click cells in the step sequencer to place hits, then press Play.

Switch between the Lead, Bass, SFX, Chords, and Arp tabs to layer additional 8-bit instruments. Every preset uses authentic chiptune synthesis: square waves with variable duty cycles, triangle waves, sawtooth waves with resonant filter sweeps, detuned unison oscillators, and noise channels — covering classic NES through retro saw-wave sound styles. Use the Mute chips in the toolbar to silence any layer while you work, and your session auto-saves in the browser so you can pick up where you left off.
